Why the cheapest rail changes with the amount
Network fees on most chains are close to flat in USD terms regardless of how much you're sending, which means the percentage they eat scales inversely with the top-up size. A $3 Ethereum ERC-20 transfer fee is 6% overhead on a $50 top-up and 0.6% on a $500 one — the fee didn't change, only what it's a fraction of did. That's why the "cheapest rail" answer for a small top-up is often different from the answer for a large one, and why a flat "use XMR, it's cheapest" recommendation misses the case where the difference between rails rounds to nothing at $500.
The defaults here are illustrative typical fees as of the snapshot date, not a live feed — this tool never calls out to an exchange or a block explorer, by design. Real network fees move with congestion, sometimes by an order of magnitude within a day, so every field is editable: paste in what your wallet or exchange is actually quoting right now and the ranking recalculates immediately.
